Core Hardware and Software Subjects
This degree integrates electronics engineering with computer science to teach you how computing hardware and software systems interact. In the first two years, you will study topics like electrical circuits, analog devices, digital electronics, microprocessors, and object-oriented programming. These modules ensure you understand basic electrical laws before you move into complex computing architectures. You will learn to use specialized mathematics to model physical hardware and write software that directly controls physical devices.
Laboratory Work and Capstone Work
Students spend a significant portion of their study time in dedicated technology laboratories rather than just sitting in standard classrooms. You will work with physical circuit boards, oscilloscopes, and embedded development systems to test electrical designs. In the third and fourth years, the workload shifts heavily toward engineering projects, including a team-based computer engineering capstone project and an independent final year project where you build and debug a complete electronic or computing prototype.
Specialized Electives and Training
The curriculum allows you to narrow down your focus in the final years by choosing specialized elective topics. You can explore themes such as robotic and autonomous devices, emerging 5G communication systems, network defense, or internet of things (IoT) smart applications. To make sure you understand how professional engineers work, the programme includes a compulsory industrial training placement where you complete a few months of practical work inside an engineering or technology company.
Professional Recognition and Career Options
Because this programme is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) and recognized by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), you graduate with a verified qualification that puts you on the track to becoming a registered professional engineer (Ir.). Graduates can choose from many career pathways, such as hardware design engineer, microchip developer, embedded software developer, or systems networking specialist. These roles are critical in industries like semiconductor manufacturing, automated logistics, and smart telecommunications.
