What You Will Study
In this course, students follow a structured pathway divided into three academic levels. The first year introduces foundational subjects that form the basis of all legal training, including Contract Law, Criminal Law, Public Law, and Legal System and Method. As students progress into the second and third years, they engage with core topics like Tort Law, Property Law, Equity and Trusts, and Jurisprudence. Students can also choose from elective modules such as Company Law, Evidence, Commercial Law, and Intellectual Property to shape their studies toward their specific interests.
Learning and Classroom Experience
Classes are split into large lectures and smaller tutorial groups. During tutorials, students review realistic case studies, analyze past court judgments, and dissect specific statutes. Instead of relying purely on memorization, the coursework requires students to apply statutory rules and judicial precedents to hypothetical problem scenarios. This helps build clear legal reasoning and written argumentation skills. Assessments are heavily focused on final examinations, which are typically three-hour, closed-book written tests held at the end of the academic session.
Campus Life and Practical Learning
Students studying at Brickfields Asia College have access to resources designed to support heavy research workloads, including 24/7 access to online legal databases like Westlaw, CLJ Law, and LexisNexis. Beyond the classroom, students can participate in activities organized by the BAC Law Society, mock court trials, and mooting competitions. These activities allow students to practice drafting legal briefs, refine their oral advocacy, and learn proper courtroom etiquette in a supportive setting.
Career and Professional Pathways
Graduates holding this degree can choose from several legal and non-legal career paths. Those aiming to practice law in Malaysia can progress to sit for the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) examination, while those wanting to practice in the UK can look into the Bar Practice Course (BPC). Outside of traditional courtroom practice as a solicitor or barrister, the skills gained from this degree prepare graduates for corporate positions, such as in-house legal counsel, compliance managers, data privacy specialists, or corporate advisors.
