Analyzing Core Civil and Criminal Procedures
Students spend a large portion of the program analyzing procedural rules that dictate how cases move through the Malaysian justice system. In civil procedure sessions, they track steps from filing an initial suit to managing enforcement orders and formal appeals in subordinate and high courts. The criminal procedure module breaks down systemic processes like police arrests, bail applications, trial management, and sentencing frameworks. Students read actual court rules and legal acts directly to understand the exact mechanics behind daily courtroom administration.
Deconstructing Courtroom Evidence and General Principles
Learning how to present facts properly is a key focus of the classroom lectures. Through the evidence module, students examine legal standards governing whether files, statements, or items can be admitted during trial proceedings. They assess hypothetical problem questions to determine the reliability and relevance of specific information in civil and criminal contexts. Alongside evidence, the general paper module revisits underlying rules of contract law and tort law, testing how students write clear legal pleadings and apply historic case law precedents to contemporary dispute scenarios.
Preparing for High-Stakes Professional Practice
The final area of study addresses the daily professional responsibilities and administrative tasks of working lawyers. Students examine topics like land transactions, bankruptcy rules, company winding-up steps, and the distribution of estates through probate law. Since evaluation rests entirely on final examinations, students practice using the extensive BAC Malaysia mock examination system to simulate realistic testing conditions. Passing these assessments serves as the academic step needed to begin a 9-month pupillage period at an external law firm, which qualifies individuals to work as practicing advocates and solicitors.
