Building Core Legal Foundations
Students in this program start by developing a comprehensive understanding of legal principles and statutory systems. The program is structured as a split pathway, giving students the option to study either one or two years in Malaysia before completing their final year abroad. During the initial years at Brickfields Asia College (BAC), the classroom style blends traditional legal lectures with small group tutorials. In these sessions, students break down key foundation modules such as English Contract Law, Criminal Liability, and Public Law, while exploring statutory interpretations and common law reasoning. Students also cover compulsory regional subjects, focusing deeply on the historical structures, fundamental liberties, and emergency powers outlined within the Malaysian Legal System and Constitutional Law.
Legal Tech and Courtroom Realities
The learning experience places a heavy emphasis on training students to think and present ideas like practicing lawyers. Beyond reading legal journals and case notes, students participate in mock trials and debates to build their verbal arguments and advocacy presence. Assessment styles rely heavily on legal research projects, analytical essays, and problem-solving assignments alongside final examinations. In the second year, students take specialized modules like Legal Technology, where they study the impact of digital innovation on the legal sector, exploring modern topics like data protection, artificial intelligence, and cybercrime laws. They also study corporate frameworks through Company Law modules to understand the burdens of limited liability, shareholder agreements, and corporate compliance.
Transitioning to a UK Partner University
The ultimate phase of the program involves moving directly into an advanced standing track at a university overseas. BAC manages a large partnership consortium consisting of 16 recognized UK universities, including institutions like Cardiff University, the University of Hertfordshire, and Liverpool. This setup allows students to transfer smoothly to complete their Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Hons degree in the United Kingdom. After completing their final year abroad, graduates are well-positioned to pursue professional legal licenses. This includes qualifying to sit for the Bar Professional Course (BPC) in the UK or returning to complete the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) in Malaysia to start careers as advocates, solicitors, legal advisors, or corporate compliance executives.
