Exploring Design Principles and Creative Tools
In the initial stage of the course, students focus heavily on building their core visual layout skills. They spend hours in design studios practicing the foundational rules of typography, conceptual drawing, and illustration. Students also learn how to use professional software applications for digital imaging, digital publication, and web design. Instead of just reading textbooks, students complete hands-on practical assignments where they create physical logos, custom packages, and branding concepts. Classes are structured to encourage individual creative thinking, and instructors provide direct feedback on weekly design tasks.
Digital Media and Interactive Projects
As students progress, the coursework shifts toward modern digital media and interactive design fields. They experiment with moving visuals through dedicated lessons in motion graphics and short animations. Students also practice designing practical layouts for mobile applications, digital magazines, and interactive information displays. This part of the studies helps students understand how people read and interact with visual content on phone screens, web browsers, and public spaces. They learn how to balance artistic expression with clear communication to ensure their visual designs are both attractive and functional.
Final Portfolios and Industry Internships
The final year focuses entirely on independent design execution and professional preparation. Students spend their semesters developing two major individual projects, compiling a clean professional portfolio, and writing a dissertation. They also leave the campus to complete a compulsory industrial training placement with advertising firms, social media marketing agencies, publishing houses, or exhibition companies. This internship gives students a realistic view of daily creative schedules, agency workflows, and client requirements. Full application details and guidelines are outlined on the First City University College Official Course Page. General information regarding registration, intake pathways, and awards is available on the First City University College Admissions Portal.
