Learning Therapeutic Foundations
In the Bachelor of Counselling, students focus on the art and science of human connection. You will study how to guide people through personal, work-related, or relationship challenges by mastering therapeutic interventions and communication techniques. The curriculum covers essential subjects such as lifespan development, social and cultural psychology, and professional ethics. You won't just read about these topics; you will learn how to apply them to help clients develop self-understanding and reach their mental health and wellness goals.
Experiencing Professional Practice
Being a student in this program is hands-on and highly interactive. The classroom experience is designed to feel like a professional environment where you participate in simulated counselling sessions and group facilitation exercises. This collaborative style ensures you are comfortable talking to diverse groups of people before you step into the real world. A major highlight is the Work-Integrated Learning component, which includes an internship and two formal counselling placements. During these 280 hours of practical work, you will support real clients under supervision, building the confidence needed for professional registration.
Environment and Industry Preparation
The program is taught at the Mt Gravatt campus, known for its focus on social and behavioural sciences. This setting creates a community of like-minded peers who are all dedicated to supporting others. This environment uniquely prepares you for careers in specialized areas like family support, addiction counselling, or crisis intervention. Because the degree is accredited by the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), you graduate ready to join the Australian Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (ARCAP).
