What You Will Study
This degree is designed to get you "engineering from day one," focusing on solving real-world problems through a "learning by doing" approach. Your first year provides a broad foundation in Engineering Science, Engineering Mathematics, and design practices. From the second year, you choose a specialized major to align with your career goals, such as Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic, Mechatronics, or Environmental Engineering. You will study how to design sustainable infrastructure, develop renewable energy systems, or create advanced robotics depending on your chosen path.
The Student Experience
Being an engineering student at Griffith University means immersing yourself in a collaborative, high-energy environment. You won't just sit in lecture halls; you will spend significant time in specialized engineering labs and hubs working on hands-on projects. The academic pace is steady and practical, with classes kept intentionally small so you can receive direct mentorship from teachers who are active in the industry. You will interact closely with practicing engineers who lead tutorial sessions and share their experiences from the field, helping you bridge the gap between classroom theory and professional reality.
Lifestyle and Environment
The culture is one of teamwork and innovation. You will often work in groups to tackle complex design challenges, mimicking the structure of professional engineering firms. Outside of formal classes, you can join active student clubs and societies, such as the Griffith Engineering Society, which connects you with like-minded peers and industry networks. This sense of community is vital, as it provides a support system for the rigorous academic expectations of an honours-level degree. You may also have opportunities for international field trips to see global engineering projects in action.
Career Pathways and Outcomes
This course uniquely prepares you for a global career through its Engineers Australia accreditation, which ensures your degree is recognized internationally under the Washington Accord. The program’s "crown jewel" is the Industry Affiliates Program (IAP), a final-year capstone project where you spend an entire trimester working with an industry partner on a genuine engineering challenge. Graduates often step straight into roles as Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineers in sectors ranging from renewable energy and aerospace to construction and medical technology.
