Foundations of Modern Media
This course introduces students to the underlying mechanics of print, broadcast, and online communication channels. Rather than memorising theories, students analyze how daily content is created, distributed, and consumed globally. In the classroom, learning looks like dissecting real-world news campaigns or tracking how a single story transforms when shared across a newspaper, a radio show, and a social media stream. This gives students a clear understanding of consumer behavior and global media patterns early in their studies.
Practical Media Writing and Production
A large part of the student journey involves developing practical creation skills. Students spend their time learning how to structure compelling news articles, script advertisements, and write short video treatments. Outside of text-based media, the curriculum introduces basic media production tools. Students get to use video editing software and audio tools to build short video packages and podcasts. Projects are highly practical, often requiring students to step out onto the Kaplan Singapore Campus grounds to conduct interviews, film footage, and package stories under realistic deadlines.
Public Relations and Strategy
Students explore how brands and public figures maintain their reputations and manage public crises. Instead of reading old textbooks, students look at recent public relations campaigns to figure out what worked and what failed. Assignments challenge students to step into the shoes of a communications officer, where they draft official press releases, design media kits, and plan public launch strategies. These practical exercises teach students how to think on their feet and communicate clearly when representing an organization.
Future Pathways and Degree Progression
Graduating from this program opens up various entry-level roles in the media sector, including content creation, media tracking, public relations coordination, and social media management. Additionally, this diploma acts as a direct pathway to higher education. Many students choose to progress directly into the second or third year of a Bachelor's degree program via Kaplan Higher Education Higher Learning Pathways. This includes dual-specialisation degrees offered in partnership with global institutions, allowing students to complete a full degree in a shorter timeframe
