Learning the Basics of Infant Care
Students in this programme learn how to take care of babies and toddlers from birth to three years old. The lessons cover essential topics like child development, safety, and health standards. Instead of just memorising facts, students learn how infants grow, how they form attachments with caregivers, and what they need to feel safe. Classroom sessions explain the science behind baby brain development, nutrition, and hygiene practices. This foundation ensures that future educators know how to react calmly and correctly to an infant's daily needs.
Practical Activities and Simulated Environments
Learning happens through a mix of online theory lectures and physical practice. During the practical portions, students spend time in simulated training environments practicing daily care routines. This includes learning how to hold a baby safely, prepare bottles, change diapers, and clean toys according to strict hygiene laws. Students also create lesson plans that use music, simple toys, and sensory games to help infants develop their senses. Group discussions are common, where students share ways to talk gently with infants and handle stressful situations in a childcare centre.
Real Workplace Training
A large part of the course is the supervised practicum, which takes 120 hours out of the total 180 hours of study. Students are placed in real, licensed childcare centers in Singapore to work alongside experienced infant educators. In these settings, students practice observing infants, writing down notes about their development, and helping to manage daily room routines. This hands-on experience helps students build confidence in talking with parents, working as a team with other staff, and managing a room full of energetic toddlers.
Career Pathways and Future Growth
Graduating from this course opens direct opportunities to work as an infant care specialist or a childcare assistant in early childhood centers. It provides the necessary certification recognized by local childcare authorities to handle infants professionally. Many students use this short qualification to start working quickly before deciding to study further. It creates a direct academic pathway toward advanced certificates or diplomas in early childhood education for those who want to eventually manage centers or teach older preschool children.
