Blending Western Classical and Eastern Traditions
Students in this course receive complete training that covers both Western classical music and traditional Eastern musical concepts. They take core theory classes to understand harmony, counterpoint, and musical structure. The curriculum also explores ethnic music styles and focuses on incorporating local cultural elements into student compositions. This broad focus ensures that students can appreciate and create a wide variety of global and regional styles.
Practical Instrument Study and Ensemble Work
A major part of a student's week revolves around practical performance and learning to master an instrument. Students choose a principal study and a second study instrument, practicing techniques and receiving one-on-one guidance from instructors. They apply these performance skills directly by participating in weekly ensemble practices and choir sessions. Through these group rehearsals, students build essential teamwork skills and learn what it takes to blend their sound with other instrumentalists.
Music Tech and Business Fundamentals
The program moves beyond traditional instrumentation to teach modern skills necessary for today's music industry. Students spend time learning computer music tools and digital audio workstations to write, arrange, and produce original pieces. They also take classes in music business, which teaches them how copyrights work, how to manage performances, and how to promote their musical services professionally.
Practical Conducting and Recitals
As students advance into their final semesters, they shift toward leadership and live execution. They practice essential conducting techniques and study instruction methods to prepare for careers in tutoring or leading ensembles. To complete their diploma, students plan and perform a public graduation recital, showcasing their technical growth. They also complete a mandatory internship with professional music studios, schools, or production houses. More details on the syllabus can be seen on the MIA Music Page.
