Training at the On-Campus Lab
Students spend a significant amount of their time learning practical skills inside the MDIS Tropical Breeze Hospitality Training Facility. This 1,400-square-foot training area simulates a live hotel and resort environment. Inside the lab, students learn how to operate the Opera Property Management System, which is the standard software used for front office operations globally. The facility also features a fully equipped bar and barista setup where students practice beverage preparation and food service. For housekeeping training, a mock-up guest room allows students to master accommodation management through direct hands-on practice.
Hospitality and Event Curriculum
The program covers a broad range of operational and business subjects to prepare students for the demands of the service sector. Students take modules such as Management of MICE Events, Digital Marketing, and Food & Beverage Management. The classroom style blends theoretical concepts with practical activities, allowing students to learn managerial accounting and human resource planning specifically tailored to tourism. Students also participate in specialized workshops, such as the Food and Hygiene Workshop, which provides foundational knowledge necessary for food service operations.
Practical Internship Placement
A core element of this course is the mandatory six-month industrial attachment at actual businesses. Students work in commercial venues, hotels, resorts, or local tourist attractions to apply what they have learned in class. International students complete this placement under a Training Work Permit approved by the Singapore Ministry of Manpower. During the internship, students take on daily operational responsibilities, manage customer relations, and handle live situations under professional employer supervision.
Next Steps and Careers
Graduates can transition directly into the workforce or continue their higher education. Common job options include roles like hotel operations executives, event coordinators, travel consultants, and guest relations managers. For those who want to earn a full degree, graduating from this diploma provides a direct pathway to enter the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in International Tourism and Hospitality Management top-up program awarded by the University of Sunderland in the United Kingdom.
