Foundational Industry Insights
This foundation course helps students build a basic understanding of the global travel, resort, and tourism sectors. Students attend lectures and tutorials where they explore the main trends in hospitality, learn standard business communication, and study marketing strategies specifically tailored for tourism brands. The curriculum focuses on giving students a clear look at how modern hotels and travel agencies operate day-to-day.
Hands-On Practice at Tropical Breeze
Instead of only reading textbooks, students spend time at the campus hospitality training facility known as Tropical Breeze. This 1,400 square foot facility looks like a real hotel environment. Inside, students practice using the Opera Property Management System, which is the actual software used by hotel front desks worldwide. They also learn basic food and beverage operations, try barista skills, and practice room preparations in a mock guest room.
Real-World Internship Experience
To help students see what working in the industry is really like, the programme includes a compulsory six-month internship. Students get placed at local or international hotels, resorts, and popular attractions. During this time, they work in entry-level roles, handle customer service situations, and learn how to manage the daily demands of a busy hospitality environment.
Future Study and Career Pathways
After finishing this six-month foundation course, students can move directly into the Higher Diploma in Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management at the Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS). The credits earned also help prepare graduates for entry-level jobs in airlines, travel boards, event planning firms, and cruise lines.
