PreMedical Foundation Year

Another option in our Medicine curriculum is the Pre-Medical (Pre-Med) Foundation Year (FY). It gives students a strong foundation in the biomedical sciences through a sequence of integrated and standalone modules and a modularised evaluation.

In addition to giving students a strong foundation in the biomedical sciences, each semester consists of 12 weeks of in-person instruction, one week of review, and two weeks of exams. Students also gain the IT skills they need to function efficiently in the college's virtual learning environment (VLE). With a modularised evaluation, the course is taught as a sequence of integrated and standalone courses.

The European Credit Transfer System is complied with by the FY modular framework. Eight courses make up the curriculum, which has a total of 60 ECTS credits. While some modules are worth five credits, some are worth ten. In light of the difficulties some students encounter when adjusting to tertiary education, the main goal of the introduction of 10 credit modules into the FY was to lessen the assessment load on students in Semester I.

To finish, students must pass every module. After that, students can start their junior year of medical school at either the RCSI or UCD. When the final findings are released, a definite offer will be made.
