Core Tracks and Specialized Subjects
The curriculum provides structured learning divided into distinct operational pathways tailored to specific musical ambitions. Students can choose between the Performance Track or the Performance and Recording Track based on their musical goals. Those on the performance path spend their time analyzing western musical history from 1600 to 1900, studying music interpretation, and practicing core performance techniques. Meanwhile, students on the recording path focus on contemporary pop music theory, audio setup, and the mechanics of sound tracking. Both tracks incorporate foundational modules in music management and business development to help students understand how the professional industry functions.
Practical Training and Creative Projects
Learning takes place through active instrument training, studio work, and real-world execution. Instead of relying purely on classroom lectures, students spend significant hours handling recording gear, mastering stage presence, and working on collaborative creative assignments. During the second year, students complete a dedicated recording project portfolio or a comprehensive creative project. These assignments mirror real industry expectations, requiring students to arrange pieces, manage production logistics, or design a performance from scratch. Students also look closely at modern music trends from 1900 onward, learning how to blend traditional Asian musical ideas with standard Western styles.
Progressing in Performance and Theory Proficiency
The training is paced over two years to systematically raise a student's technical execution and theoretical understanding. By the final semester, the program aims to elevate a student's practical play style to match the performance benchmarks set by international assessment bodies. This includes reaching a technical proficiency level comparable to an Associate Diploma from institutions like the London College of Music (LCM), Trinity Guildhall, or the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). On the academic side, written examinations and practical tests track progress in advanced music theory to ensure students can read, analyze, and write complex arrangements confidently.
Career Pathways and Academic Advancement
Completing this qualification sets up a clear route into the professional entertainment sector or higher university degrees. Graduates frequently step into positions as session musicians, live ensemble performers, studio tracking assistants, or independent music educators. The inclusion of copyright laws, royal protection rules, and negotiation modules also opens pathways into artistic management, event coordination, and digital distribution roles. For individuals wishing to continue their education, the credits earned throughout this course serve as a direct stepping stone toward enrolling in full music degree programs globally. Additional course pathway information and application paperwork can be reviewed directly on the Singapore Raffles Music College Course Page.
