Core Musical Training
Students focus heavily on building practical skills in their chosen principal instrument or vocal style through regular classes and personalized feedback from teachers. The curriculum includes dedicated performance modules where students learn to expand their repertoire and improve their live execution. Alongside regular practice sessions, the course introduces foundational music theory to ensure students understand the structure and grammar of musical pieces.
Music History and Technology Basics
The program introduces students to the historical development of music as well as the technical tools used in the modern landscape. Through music history modules, students explore different eras and stylistic movements within Western musical traditions. They also spend time learning how to operate essential software and recording hardware. This helps them understand the basics of audio tracking, project production, and digital music tools that working musicians use daily.
Communication and Business Foundations
To prepare students for standard professional interactions, the course includes training in cross-cultural communication. This helps students learn how to share creative ideas clearly and network with other artists from diverse backgrounds. Students who already demonstrate strong music theory knowledge upon entry can skip the introductory theory classes. Instead, they take basic entrepreneurship classes to learn how to plan, fund, and manage their own independent musical projects.
Progression to Further Studies
Completing this one-year program serves as an academic stepping stone for students who want to earn higher qualifications. The training aims to raise a student's instrumental performance to a standard equivalent to Grade 6 of external assessment boards like the ABRSM or Trinity Guildhall. Once students successfully finish the course requirements on the official Certificate in Music Page, they can seamlessly transition into the higher-level Diploma in Music track offered at Singapore Raffles Music College.
