Comprehensive Dance Styles and Training
The program covers a wide range of dance genres to help students build their technical physical abilities. Students train in standard dance studios, focusing on traditional styles like Ballet and Classical Dance, while also exploring expressive movements in Modern Dance. The curriculum introduces regional elements through Folk and Ethnic Dance, alongside urban styles like Street Dance and commercial performance styles found in Musical Theatre. Practicing these diverse forms allows dancers to improve their physical versatility, alignment, and movement accuracy. Detailed program components can be viewed on the official Singapore Raffles Music College Course Page.
Theoretical Foundations and Specialized Skills
Beyond studio dance sessions, students attend classroom lectures that support their academic understanding of the field. Modules include Dance History and Theory, which provides historical context to different art forms. Through the Theory and Practice of Choreography, students learn how to structure, arrange, and create their own original dance routines. The course also teaches Dance Pedagogy to prepare students for future teaching roles, and Music Theory to help dancers better analyze rhythms, beats, and musicality during a performance.
Complementary Performance and Industry Preparation
To build well-rounded performers, the curriculum incorporates cross-disciplinary subjects that prepare dancers for modern media environments. Students take classes in Drama and Theatre to build their stage presence, alongside Pop Vocals to expand their vocal performance capabilities. Practical subjects like Make-up application teach students how to prepare for live stage shows and camera work. Dancers also study Movement and Posture Studies to refine their physical presence, and take lessons in Camera Presentation Skills and New Media Skills to manage digital media projects and online presentations.
