Core Pedagogical Training
This course helps active musicians, dancers, and theatre performers transition smoothly into instructional roles. Students explore how people learn creative disciplines by studying the Pedagogic Theories and Practices module. The curriculum details practical techniques for handling classroom environments, planning lesson structures, and designing instructional curriculum without requiring a previous background in formal education degree programs. Dedicated training in 1:1 and Small Group Teaching prepares students to accurately guide individual learners or small ensembles, tailoring feedback to different learning paces.
Creative Workshops and Material Design
A significant portion of the training focuses on interactive group leadership and content generation. Through the Creative Workshopping for Education and Community Settings module, students practice directing workshops suited for schools, youth groups, and outreach setups. The Devising Material module teaches students how to create original scripts, musical scores, or movement routines specifically for educational purposes. Students also practice incorporating classroom technology into their artistic routines to keep modern sessions engaging.
The Administration of Arts Education
Beyond classroom instructing, the course covers the administrative and entrepreneurial realities of the arts sector. The Business of Education module introduces essential skills in managing school arts programs, handling fundraising campaigns, and executing marketing strategies. This operational knowledge helps students prepare for roles as program directors, community arts leaders, or independent studio owners who can manage budgets and coordinate outreach events effectively.
Research Methods and Final Projects
To complete the degree conferred by the University of West London, students learn how to conduct independent academic inquiries. The PG Research Methods module teaches qualitative and quantitative tracking tools used in educational research. Students apply these tools directly during their final Masters Project, where they select a specific performance education issue, analyze it, and write an extensive research report. This academic base serves as a direct step forward for individuals aiming to teach in higher education or pursue a PhD later on. Detailed curriculum data can be reviewed directly on the Singapore Raffles Music College Course Page.
