Course Overview

Training versatile musicians and music producers is the goal of this curriculum. This degree program combines technical and creative elements, giving you a strong foundation in music theory and academic knowledge while honing your audio technology skills through studio work and multidisciplinary group projects. Composition, arrangement, sound design, cinema scoring, music theory, history, and aural training are among the topics and domains addressed.

Entry Requirement

The entry requirements for the program include STPM with an average Grade C or CGPA 2.0 (minimum two principals), A-Level with at least 8 points (Grade D in at least two subjects, calculated as A=10, B=8, C=6, D=4, E=2), Australian Matriculation with an ATAR of 55, Canadian Matriculation with 55%, Monash University Foundation Year with 55%, and Sunway Foundation in Arts or Science Technology with a CGPA of 2.0. Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) applicants must achieve a maximum of 28 points from five subjects, including all Grade Bs, while International Baccalaureate candidates require a minimum of 24 points (excluding bonus points). Sunway Diploma holders in a related field must have a CAVG of 50% or CGPA 2.0 and may obtain advanced standing if credit transfer requirements are met. Applicants with an APEL.A Certificate (APEL T-6) are also eligible, and other qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Candidates for the Contemporary Music (Audio Technology) program must pass an audition, preparing three 1.5-minute pieces to be performed or sung on an instrument of their choice, along with a self-introduction video (contact cmat@sunway.edu.my for details). English language requirements include an IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent, MUET Band 4, SPM English B+, UEC English B4, O-Level English (1119) Credit, or a pass in the Sunway Intensive English Programme (IEP) Level 4 with a minimum of 65%. Satisfactory ESL/English proficiency in pre-university programs where the medium of instruction is English is also accepted.
