Course Overview

The Mechanical Engineering programme is a modern, project-based degree which aims to produce graduates who address the Grand Challenges for Engineering and the UNSDGs. As a project-based degree, our students will Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate at least 4 engineering systems (or projects) throughout their degree, with at least 2 of such projects being based on real-life industry challenges. Their projects will address the Grand Challenges and the UNSDGs. To assist them, students will also be taught to meaningfully use current Industry 4.0 tools and software such as 3-D Printing, Computational Fluid Dynamics and Finite Element Method.

The Sunway University Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with Honours (BEng Hons) degree is recognised as equivalent to that of Lancaster University's Master of Engineering Mechanical Engineering with Honours (MEng Hons) degree. Upon successfully completing the programme, Sunway University BEng Hons degree graduates will also be awarded the MEng Hons degree from Lancaster University. They will be awarded two certificates, making them graduates of both Sunway University and Lancaster University.

Entry Requirement

Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications: STPM with a CGPA of 2.00, including Mathematics and one Natural Sciences subject (minimum Grade C); A-Level with a minimum of 12 points for Mathematics and one Natural Sciences subject (minimum Grade D, where A=10, B=8, C=6, D=4, E=2); Australian Matriculation with an ATAR of 65, including Mathematics Methods and one Natural Sciences subject; Canadian Matriculation with 65%, including Advanced Functions, Calculus & Vectors, and one Natural Sciences subject; Monash University Foundation Year with 65%, including Mathematics and one Natural Sciences subject; or Sunway Foundation in Science Technology with a CGPA of 2.5, including Mathematics and one Natural Sciences subject. Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) holders must have a maximum of 24 points from 5 subjects, with all Grade Bs including Mathematics and one Natural Sciences subject. Diploma holders require a CGPA of 2.5 from Engineering, Science, or Technology fields, while Matriculation/Foundation programs require a CGPA of 2.5, including Mathematics and one Natural Sciences subject. IB Diploma applicants must complete the program with a minimum of 25 points (excluding bonus points), including Mathematics and one Natural Sciences subject. Equivalent qualifications with a CGPA of 2.5 will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and an APEL.A Certificate (APEL T-6) is also accepted. Natural Sciences subjects include Physics, Biology, or Chemistry, with preference given to Physics and SPM or equivalent qualifications in the Science stream. International students from specific countries must complete and pass a six-month International Preparatory Programme (IPP) with a grade of C or above to enrol in certain Sunway University degree programs in partnership with Lancaster University. English language requirements include IELTS 6.0, MUET Band 4, SPM English B+, UEC English B3, O-Level English (1119) B3, or passing Level 4 of the Sunway Intensive English Programme (IEP) with a minimum of 65%, along with satisfactory ESL/English proficiency in pre-university programs taught in English. Malaysian students entering with non-English-medium qualifications must meet MQA's requirement for MUET or an international English proficiency qualification to register for engineering programs.
