Foundations of Media and Writing
The TMC Academy Diploma in Mass Communication provides a clear introduction to the foundational theories and practices used across modern media landscapes. In the early stages of the program, students take mandatory foundation subjects designed to build academic and professional communication skills. These initial modules include Strategies for Academic Success, Business Communication, Introduction to Information Technology, and Introduction to Mass Communication. Through these subjects, students learn how to structure research papers, write professional business messages, and grasp the historical development of different media formats like newspapers, radio, and television.
Elective Specialisations and Creative Media Projects
As students advance through the course, they select three core elective modules to match their specific creative or career interests. The available electives cover practical media fields, allowing students to explore subjects like Foundations of Writing, Advertising and Public Relations, Web Production, and Documentary. Students who prefer digital creation can choose options such as Animation for Digital Production, Introduction to Media, Media Communication and Technology, or Introduction to Screen Theories. Those interested in reporting can study Legal and Ethical Issues for Journalists. In these modules, students work on realistic tasks such as designing websites, sketching simple animations, planning public relations campaigns, and analyzing films.
Classroom Experience and Learning Methods
The entire course is delivered locally in Singapore, giving students immediate access to local lecturers and the educational tools at the campus. Learning takes place through a mixture of traditional lectures, small-group tutorials, interactive workshops, seminars, and student presentations. Instructors provide comprehensive study materials, such as detailed lecture notes and lists of recommended textbooks, academic articles, and websites. Instead of relying solely on standard memory tests, the school evaluates student progress using a combination of formal examinations, written assignments, practical projects, class presentations, and short tests. To receive their qualification from TMC Academy, students must complete and pass all required modules within the designated timeframe.
