Course Overview

The Civil Engineering programme is a full-time, 4-year undergraduate course leading to the Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (Civil Engineering) degree. It is designed to train future civil engineers with the skills to plan, design, construct, maintain, and enhance the built and natural environment. This includes infrastructure such as buildings, bridges, roads, canals, dams, sewerage systems, and pipelines. Throughout the programme, students will study a wide range of subjects, including mathematics, mechanics, materials, structural design, geotechnics, hydraulics, surveying, and project management.

Learning goes beyond the classroom, with theory reinforced through laboratory sessions, fieldwork, industrial training, and a final-year project. Core courses offered include Civil Engineering Materials, Engineering Geology, Applied Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Mechanics of Solids, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydrology, Highway Engineering, and Environmental Engineering.

Entry Requirement

STPM (Malaysian Higher School Certificate) Minimum CGPA of 2.33. At least a grade C+ (NGMP 2.33) in the following subjects: • Mathematics (T) • Physics or Chemistry Minimum Band 2.0 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for examinations from Session 1, 2021 onwards, or Band 2 for examinations up to 2020 (valid at the time of application). Candidates must not have colour vision deficiencies or physical disabilities that hinder practical or laboratory work. Matriculation / Foundation Studies Minimum CGPA of 2.67. At least a grade B- (2.67) in the following subjects: • Mathematics • Physics / Engineering Physics / Chemistry / Engineering Chemistry Minimum Band 2.0 in MUET (Session 1, 2021 onwards) or Band 2 (before 2021). Candidates must be free from colour blindness and physical impairments that could affect hands-on and laboratory tasks. Diploma / Equivalent Diploma in Engineering / Science or equivalent from institutions recognised by Universiti Malaysia Sabah Senate with a minimum CGPA of 3.00; OR Candidates with CGPA below 3.00 but with at least two (2) years of relevant working experience may also apply. Must have at least a grade B in SPM (or equivalent) for: • Mathematics • Physics or Chemistry Candidates without the above SPM requirements must obtain at least a grade B in Mathematics and Physics / Chemistry / Engineering Science at Diploma level. Minimum Band 2.0 in MUET (Session 1, 2021 onwards) or Band 2 (before 2021). Candidates must not have colour vision deficiencies or physical disabilities that hinder practical or laboratory work. GCE A-Level Minimum Grade C in: • Mathematics / Further Mathematics • Physics or Chemistry Minimum Band 3.0 in MUET (Session 1, 2021 onwards) or Band 3 (before 2021); OR IELTS (Academic) minimum overall band 5.5; OR TOEFL minimum score of 550 (PBT) / 213 (CBT) / 80 (iBT). Candidates must not have visual or physical impairments that hinder practical or laboratory work. International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Minimum of 24 points overall. At least Grade 4 (Higher Level) in: • Mathematics • Physics or Chemistry Minimum Band 3.0 in MUET (Session 1, 2021 onwards) or Band 3 (before 2021); OR IELTS (Academic) minimum overall band 5.5; OR TOEFL minimum score of 550 (PBT) / 213 (CBT) / 80 (iBT). Candidates must not have visual or physical impairments that hinder practical or laboratory work.
