A Supportive Start to Business
The Degree Transfer Extended Business program at the College of International Education (CIE) is specifically for students who want a more gradual introduction to the Australian university system. Unlike the standard course, this version includes an extra initial semester of bridging units like Commercial Law Fundamentals and Statistics. This extra time allows students to build a solid base in business language and quantitative skills before tackling the full first-year university curriculum. Students spend their daily lives at the NUspace city campus, a landmark building where they share spaces and campus resources with regular university students from day one.
Deep Dive into Core Disciplines
After the initial bridging semester, students move into the core subjects that mirror the first year of a Bachelor's degree. You will explore topics such as Accounting for Decision Makers and Introduction to Finance. The learning style is highly interactive, moving beyond textbooks to use real-world data and case studies. For instance, in marketing units, you might analyze the branding strategies of global companies, while in management classes, you'll practice solving organizational problems through group discussions and collaborative projects.
Mastering Academic Communication
A major part of the student experience in the extended stream is the focus on Academic English A and B. These units are woven into the second and third semesters to ensure your writing and presentation skills meet the high standards required for second-year university study. You will practice everything from drafting formal business reports to participating in professional debates. This approach ensures that you aren't just learning facts, but also developing the confidence to express your ideas clearly in a competitive corporate environment.
Pathways to Graduation
Upon finishing this 16-month program, you transition directly into the second year of a Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Business Analytics. This allows you to specialize in high-demand fields like Entrepreneurship and Innovation or International Business. Because the credits you earn at CIE are fully recognized by the University of Newcastle, you graduate with the same degree as students who started directly at the university, but with the added benefit of a stronger foundational support system.
