The Bachelor of Maritime Engineering (Specialisation) with Honours is a comprehensive professional degree delivered through the Australian Maritime College (AMC), Australia's national institute for maritime education. This program focuses on the design, construction, and operation of marine craft and offshore structures, providing students with the technical expertise needed for a global career in the maritime sector.
Specialised Learning Pathways
Students choose from three distinct specialisations to tailor their expertise. Naval Architecture focuses on the design and construction of vessels ranging from luxury yachts and submarines to naval ships and high-speed ferries. Ocean Engineering dives into the design and operation of offshore and subsea structures, wave mechanics, and offshore renewable energy. Marine and Offshore Engineering concentrates on the mechanical and electrical systems that power ships and offshore rigs, including oil and gas extraction technology.
Advanced Facilities and Practical Training
The student experience is defined by access to some of the most advanced maritime research facilities in the Southern Hemisphere. Students spend time in the Towing Tank, the Model Test Basin, and the Cavitation Tunnel to test hull designs and propulsion systems. Learning goes beyond the classroom with hands-on projects at sea on AMC's training vessels, where students experience real-world marine operations and deep-sea environment challenges.
Industry Integration and Career Preparation
This course is professionally accredited by Engineers Australia, ensuring graduates are recognized globally. A mandatory 12-week Engineering Professional Practice placement ensures every student gains industry experience before graduating, working under the supervision of professional engineers to solve complex work-related problems. This direct connection to the industry prepares students for diverse roles in naval shipbuilding, renewable energy, and marine consultancy.
