Interactive Learning through the VU Block Model
Students in this program experience a unique way of learning through the VU Block Model, where they study just one subject at a time over a four-week "block". This focused pace allows for deep immersion into technical topics without the stress of juggling multiple exams at once. The classroom environment is highly interactive, featuring small group sizes that encourage direct engagement with teachers and peers, ensuring that students receive real-time feedback on their coding or networking tasks.
Specialist Skills in High-Demand Disciplines
The curriculum is designed to equip students with practical skills in rapidly growing areas of the digital economy. Students can choose to major in Web and Mobile Application Development or Network and System Computing. Training involves hands-on work with industry-standard technologies, including Cisco routing and switching, Amazon cloud servers, and mobile app development for Android and iOS. This practical focus ensures that students are not just learning theory but are building a portfolio of work using the same tools used by IT professionals globally.
Discipline-Specific Environment and Labs
The student experience is centered around modern technical facilities such as the Cyber Security Training Centre, run in collaboration with Cisco. Lab-based learning is a core component, where students spend significant time configuring virtualisation infrastructure and managing Microsoft Active Directory networks. This collaborative environment mimics a professional IT workspace, preparing students for the teamwork required in tech projects.
Career Readiness and Professional Pathways
This course is specifically designed to bridge the gap between study and employment by integrating industry certifications—such as CCNA—directly into the learning process. High-achieving students may also have the opportunity to transfer into the Bachelor of IT (Professional), which includes a 12-month industry internship. Graduates are prepared for a variety of roles, including system security consultant, web developer, or database administrator, and are eligible for professional membership with the Australian Computer Society.
