About This University

A Pioneering Force in Creative Education

Founded in 1982 by John Martin Cass, JMC Academy broke ground as Australia's first private college to qualify for accreditation in Audio Engineering, Digital Television, and Digital Multimedia. From day one, the academy was established to meet the growing demand for qualified professionals in the entertainment technology industry. Over 40 years later, JMC Academy remains Australia's leading creative industries institution, having educated thousands of graduates who have gone on to make their mark in music, film, television, animation, gaming, and entertainment business.

In 2013, JMC Academy received significant recognition when it was awarded Higher Education Provider of the Year by the Australian Council for Private Education and Training (ACPET), along with the Teacher of the Year award. That same year marked another milestone when JMC became the only Australian institution to join the prestigious Berklee College of Music's International Network, connecting students to a global community of creative professionals and opening doors to international opportunities.

The Brisbane Campus – Heart of Queensland's Creative Precinct

JMC Academy's Brisbane campus occupies a prime location in South Brisbane, positioned directly within Queensland's cultural and educational hub. Situated at both 69 Grey Street and 75 Grey Street, the campus sits adjacent to Queensland's State Library, Art Gallery, Museum, and Performing Arts Centre – placing students at the very center of Brisbane's thriving arts scene.

In 2018, JMC opened an impressive 8-floor, $10 million state-of-the-art creative education facility at 69 Grey Street, expanding on the original 3-storey campus. This purpose-built building was designed specifically for creative education and includes extensive modern facilities: a comprehensive library, expanded study areas, multiple classrooms, creative collaborative spaces, and comfortable break-out areas for students to relax and connect. The most exciting feature is the addition of 17 fully equipped practice and ensemble rehearsal rooms spanning two floors, giving music students professional-grade spaces to perfect their craft.

The campus location couldn't be more convenient – just a 3-minute walk from South Brisbane train station and a 2-minute walk from Cultural Centre bus station (a major bus interchange), making it easily accessible by public transport. It's also a 5-minute walk from Brisbane Mall and directly accessible by train from the Gold Coast. Students can immerse themselves in Brisbane's riverside culture, surrounded by cafes, galleries, live music venues, and entertainment options that keep creativity flowing both inside and outside the classroom.
