Founded in 1971 and now part of Te Pūkenga—New Zealand’s national vocational education network—Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) educates more than 13,000 students across six campuses and via its SIT2LRN distance‑learning platform.
🎓 Programmes & Innovation
SIT offers more than 200 programmes spanning certificate to master’s levels in areas such as business, IT, creative industries, hospitality, trades, health sciences, engineering, and agriculture. It’s renowned for its Zero Fees Scheme, which eliminates tuition for eligible domestic students, significantly lowering the cost of tertiary education. Many programmes are co-designed with industry, integrating internships and hands-on projects to ensure job-ready graduates.
🏫 Campuses & Learning Flexibility
SIT’s main campus in Invercargill houses core services like administration, library, hospitality, trades, and creative arts facilities. Other campuses include Queenstown, Gore, Balclutha’s Telford rural education site, Christchurch, and the specialist MAINZ music & audio institute. Students can also study via HyFlex or online through SIT2LRN for maximum flexibility.
🤝 Student Support & Outcomes
Small class sizes and expert instructors deliver personalised learning experiences. International students benefit from scholarship schemes, on-campus accommodation, English support, and community integration initiatives. Graduate outcomes are strong—with the majority finding employment or pursuing further study soon after completion.
